Description
This CD commemorates jazz pianist, composer and arranger Emil Viklický's seventy-fifth birthday with music inspired by his Moravian roots and his affection for folk songs transformed into compositions for a trio and special guests. The performers include bassist František Uhlíř, drummer Cyril Zeleňák, violinist Jiří Pavlica, cimbalom player Milan Malina, saxophonist František Kop, and singers Iva Bittová and the legendary Věra Domincová. Nine original folk sources and one new composition create an assured, melodically rich performance enhanced by exceptional vocals. Originally released in 1991 and somewhat overlooked amid the social and musical upheaval of the time, the music remains fresh, inspired and inspiring, as this commemorative CD and LP reissue demonstrates. The repertoire includes Za horama, za lesama..., Vínko, víno, Preletěl ftáček, Grumle, Touha, Jedna sestra bratra měla, Můj koníček pádí, Láskou zhynulý, Keď sa Janko na vojnu bral and an epilogue version of Za horama, za lesama....
