Description
This Czech-language audiobook, read by Petr Štěpán, offers a warm and intelligent mystery set in sunny France, where wine, cheese, truffles and murder come together. Police chief Bruno’s main responsibility is to keep life running smoothly in the picturesque town of St Denis, in the heart of France. His duties include organising village celebrations and rugby matches, finding lost dogs, issuing parking fines and settling disputes between neighbours. The town’s almost idyllic life is disrupted by a ritual murder. Outside inspectors from the district town and an unpleasant investigating judge from Paris take charge of the case, but Bruno, who knows the local area and its people, begins searching for the murderer on his own. He refuses to give up his customary multi-course dinners and tennis matches with friends, however. The story provides a pleasant alternative to hard-edged Nordic crime fiction and offers an almost culinary experience.
