This Czech-language MP3 audiobook presents a selection from the work of Karel Hynek Mácha, including Máj, his lyrical poetry, prose, travel notes and diaries. Máj, Mácha’s only published book, is presented in three important interpretations from the Supraphon archive, performed by Václav Voska, Rudolf Hrušínský, Jiří and Petr Traxler, Heda Hošková and other distinguished Czech actors, including František Němec, Jiří Adamíra, Taťjana Medvecká, Marek Eben, Radovan Lukavský, Petr Haničinec, Otakar Brousek the Elder and Vladimír Ráž. The collection is complemented by new recordings of Mácha’s travel writings and further poems written outside Máj. They reflect central themes of his work: the transience of life, the fleetingness of youth and disappointed romantic desire.
