Katapult 2006 - CD

This CD reissue presents Katapult’s significant second album, originally released in 1980 after several successful singles and the band’s debut live recording. The hard-rock trio of Oldřich Říha, Jiří Šindelář and Anatoli Kohout was exceptionally popular on stage and was now given the opportunity to refine its musical foundations in the studio, enrich the arrangements and avoid being restricted by standard track lengths. Some critics at the time considered their music, including Ladislav Vostárek’s lyrics, too simple. Today, however, it is clear that the riff-driven guitar songs with instantly memorable choruses, complemented by straightforward singing about real-life situations, have definitively won their battle with time. Songs including Až…, Svobodárna, Tvůj první mejdan, Jen jednou dostat šanci and Vojín XY hlásí příchod remain enduring anthems for generations of fans. The clear melodies and well-chosen themes resulted in energetic, urgent Czech big beat. Otakar Petřina supported the band at the beginning of its career and contributes his guitar expertise and studio experience here. The nearly eight-minute Vojín XY, for example, demonstrates an unusually free form for its time, with a seemingly endless ending. The new edition also includes little-known photographs and a reflection on the seventy-five-year-old Říha.
