Asi v tom bude nějakej háček - CD

This legendary album by Jan Spálený is presented on CD as a musical greeting for his eightieth birthday. Although listed as a solo recording without ASPM, it is supported by excellent studio musicians, including Petr Kalandra on harmonica and vocals, Michal Pavlíček on guitars, Jiří Veselý on bass guitar and accordion, and Jiří Hrubeš on drums and percussion. With no synthesizers used, the album is a pure listening pleasure, bringing together a coherent repertoire, outstanding musicians and Spálený’s distinctive voice. There are only two cover versions; the remaining songs come from Spálený’s own substantial body of work, with lyrics by Pavel Vrba, Petr Kalandra, Zdeněk Rytíř and the composer himself. Slightly melancholy and gently ironic, the songs carry a sense of hidden energy, singular sentiment and authenticity in every note and word. The album recalls the atmosphere of the mid-1980s, when the first signs of change were beginning to appear. The release features new remastering and packaging reconstructed by the original graphic designer Karel Haloun and photographer Jaroslav Prokop, including a photograph of emigrated drummer Hrubeš that had originally been omitted. The tracklist includes “Myslím teď na tebe, moje milovaná”, “Už zrezly bezy”, “Stoupá dým”, “Aceton blues”, “Asi v tom bude nějakej háček”, “Bojler blues”, “Špitál u sv. Jakuba (Saint James Infirmary Blues)”, “Hádej”, “Tak jo”, “Mý lásky pouťový”, “Mezi břehy” and “Blues Nádržní ulice (Basin Street Blues)”.
