Description
This CD presents Ellaboration, a project by singer Dasha and Epoque Quartet inspired by the legacy of Ella Fitzgerald. Songs made famous by the jazz icon are developed into fresh new arrangements, combining the distinctive sound of a string quartet with percussion including hang drum, vibraphone and cajón, played by Šimon Veselý. The project gives Dasha an opportunity to demonstrate her exceptional voice in a different setting from her usual popular-music performances. Most of the arrangements are by Alexey Aslamas. Dasha is known for her work in popular music as well as jazz projects and collaborations with symphony orchestras, while Epoque Quartet has spent more than 20 years exploring repertoire, extending the boundaries of quartet music and working with musicians from a wide range of fields. The album grows out of a collaboration already tested on concert stages. The recording was made at the SONO and SO-LA-RO studios, with the final mix and mastering by Adam Karlík. The tracklist includes “Caravan”, “Too Darn Hot”, “My Funny Valentine”, “For Once in My Life”, “In My Solitude”, “Over the Rainbow”, “Someone to Watch over Me”, “You’ve Changed”, “So in Love”, “Bei mir bist du schoen”, “Dream a Little Dream of Me”, “This Can’t Be Love” and “I Hate Men”, with Šimon Veselý featured on most tracks.
