Poesis Beat - CD

This album presents 11 poetic songs by beat singer-songwriter Luboš Pospíšil, created with his musical and literary friends. It offers an opportunity for everyone with a weakness for unmistakably Czech music and substantial, carefully written lyrics to take stock in good company. Originally intended to mark Pospíšil’s seventieth birthday, the album was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, which paradoxically allowed more time to develop the melodies and find co-authors. Pospíšil wrote all the music himself, working with his regular lyricists J. P. Lábus and P. Kadlec, with texts from the estate of P. Šrut and new contributions by writer J. Hájíček. The songs were arranged collectively at a distance and recorded mainly separately before being completed and assembled, with final mastering following later. The core instrumental lineup consists of versatile guitarist Libor Mikeš Mikoška, many-stringed bassist Petr Vavřík and multi-rhythmic drummer and keyboard player Martin Vajgl, whose past and present work with Narvan, Buty and Olympic reflects their extensive experience. Pospíšil’s 5P remains his concert backing band, while this project brings together musicians with whom he shares a strong creative connection. The album recalls some of the most distinctive features of his past: driving almost-pop, a ballad with retro synthesizer, multi-part vocal play reminiscent of C&K Vocal, credible Czech blues, and well-realised echoes of Santana-style Latin music and southern rock. Together they form original singer-songwriter music for a unique voice.
