Karel O.S.T. - 2 CD

A year of mourning for Karel Gott is commemorated by a documentary filmed by Jan Malíř and directed by Olga Malířová Špátová. Seven hours of edited source material have been transformed into a two-hour record of all stages of the singer’s life, with special attention paid to his final seasons. This emotionally powerful visual account, intended for cinemas from mid-October, is naturally full of music. The accompanying two-CD release offers a maximum selection of the songs featured in the film. Alongside numerous hits, it also includes songs important to the exploration of Gott’s life and career, including recordings sung in German and tracks that complement the film’s narrative. More than 40 songs are arranged roughly chronologically and presented in packaging featuring the film poster’s artwork, with an extensive booklet containing historical photographs, reportage images from the filming and personal recollections by director Olga Malířová Špátová and the singer’s wife, Ivana. This valuable contribution to Gott’s remarkably extensive discography is unique in the context of its creation and cannot be compared with ordinary compilations. The soundtrack is especially significant because it places the songs in new contexts shaped by the biographical documentary. The tracklist includes It Takes a Worried Man, C´est la vie, All Shook Up, Maria, Dál až na měsíc (Fly Me to the Moon / In Other Words), Zloděj dobytka (You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby), So far, Nech mě spát, Úterý, Oči sněhem zaváté, Dotýkat se hvězd, Kdepak, ty ptáčku, hnízdo máš?, Bílé Vánoce (White Christmas), Lásko má (Unchained Melody), Na krásném modrém Dunaji, Bum, bum, bum, Duše, Korunou si hodím (Down on the Corner), Má první láska se dnes vdává (You Are Such a Good Looking Woman), ... a to mám rád, V máji (Il mondo), Žaluju ptákům (When We Were Young), Lady Carneval, Pošli to dál, Weisst du wohin (Somewhere My Love), Schicksalsmelodie (Love Story), Die Biene Maja, Hej, páni konšelé, Rot und schwarz (Paint It Black), Ja otkryvaju dver´ (Já brány už otvírám), Proč ptáci zpívají, Srdce nehasnou, In einer Welt für uns zwei (Rain in My Heart), Kam tenkrát šel můj bratr Jan (All by Myself), Požehnej, Bože můj (There´s a Kind of Hush), Oh, Marie (Maria, Mari!), Stokrát chválím čas (Sometimes When We Touch), Konec ptačích árií, Ráno jedu dál, Jdi za štěstím, Když jsem já byl tenkrát kluk (Yesterday When I Was Young / Hier encore), Jdi za štěstím (edit 2020), Karel Gott hovoří o písni and Together Again.
