Description
This Czech-language audiobook presents Vlasta Chramostová’s memories of important periods in her own life and in the history of her country. The recording draws on the expanded 2006 edition of her memoirs. An exceptionally intelligent and gifted actress, Chramostová experienced several radically different stages of life: immense success on the stage, in film, radio and television; a twenty-year ban on performing after 1968 for political reasons, during which she also took part in so-called home theatre; and a return to the stage of the National Theatre in Prague and to film after 1998. She also endured several tragic personal events, including causing the death of her child in a car accident and the publication of her signature on an agreement to cooperate with the State Security service, from which she spent years recovering. Her memoirs, covering the period from her birth to the turn of the millennium, offer valuable accounts of both familiar and previously unpublished events from theatrical, political and public life. At the author’s request, the book is read by Zuzana Stivínová, with whom Chramostová became friends. The set also includes an authentic recording of Chramostová’s voice, featuring a reading of a story by Jaroslav Seifert and two songs recorded in the 1960s.
