Description

This pop-swing album by Jan Smigmator contains twelve songs with Czech lyrics. Produced by multi-genre pianist, arranger and producer Jan Steinsdörfer, it features pianist Ivo Kahánek and celebrates ten years since the beginning of Smigmator’s solo career, five years after the successful Sinatrology project, and his fifth album. Smigmator presents all sides of his voice and contributes lyrics to several songs, as well as co-writing music with Czech-German pianist Svatopluk F. Smola. Alongside original songs and international standards, the album includes several songs from the repertoire of German singer Roger Cicero, with Czech lyrics written for Smigmator by Václav Kopta, Josef Nečas and Ester Kočičková. The album grew out of Jazz Picnic, a music project that Smigmator launched in his own garden during the summer of 2020. He also regularly studied singing in New York with legendary American singer Marilyn Maye. The Harlem-Brooklyn sound comes from Hammond organ player Ondřej Pivec, whom Smigmator worked with while Pivec was otherwise performing with Gregory Porter. The tracklist includes “Murphyho zákon,” “Něco se valí,” “Volá máma,” “Měsíční řeka,” “Poustevník,” “Dopisy z nebe,” “Můj čaroděj,” “Dámský fenomén,” “Piano story,” “Rychlík do Harlemu,” “Nic víc, nic míň” and “Jsi moje A i Zet.”
