Description
Fifty years after its original release, Olympic’s Pták Rosomák returns as the band’s musically more mature follow-up to Želva and the last album recorded in its classic lineup, still featuring bassist, singer and lyricist Pavel Chrastina. The musicians had emerged from a period of cultural liberalisation and brief international experience, bringing influences from the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper, sitar music from India and the hippie scene of San Francisco to music firmly rooted in Czech big beat. The album is built around the unmistakable songs of the important songwriting and performing duo Petr Janda and Pavel Chrastina, complemented by the vocals of Jan “Sorry” Pacák and Ladislav Klein. This CD edition includes nine bonus tracks: alternate Czech versions of selected songs, singles and recordings connected with the album’s creation and release. They demonstrate Olympic’s compositional, instrumental and sonic development, while the English version of Krásná neznámá reflects the disappointment of hopes that quickly faded after August 1968. The expanded release offers an extensive retrospective of a pivotal album, after which everything changed when Chrastina emigrated.
