Description
This CD presents a landmark of Czech beat music from 1968 by the group Rebels, known for the outstanding solo vocals of Svatopluk Čech, Jiří Korn and Josef Plíva, their polished male harmonies, carefully selected west coast repertoire and a thematically unified first side. The Prague band was admired and honoured at the first Czechoslovak beat festival in late 1967. Their original guitar arrangements were expanded into orchestral settings, with contributions from Václav Zahradník’s big band, R. Rokl, J. Hynčica and P. Kotík. Modern fairy-tale themes are complemented by six convincingly performed songs from the Mamas & Papas repertoire. The release features a reconstructed and redesigned fold-out sleeve with photographs and recollections, the complete song lyrics for the first time and new sound remastering. The CD also includes the bonus tracks Definitive End and Five Ravens.
