Štefan Margita, a regular guest on the world’s leading opera stages, presents a collection devoted chiefly to French chanson. Alongside French standards, the album includes Polish and Slovak songs as well as newly written Czech compositions. The lyrics come from Jiřina Fikejzová, Pavel Kopta, Pavel Cmíral, Hana Zagorová and Vojtěch Nýdl, while new texts were specially created by Gabriela Osvaldová, Ľubomír Feldek, Martin Chodúr and Václav Kopta. Chodúr’s lyrics for Jacques Brel’s “Quand on n’a que l’amour” were authorized by the chanson composer’s daughter, France Brel of Editions Jacques Brel. Two original Czech songs feature music by Ondřej Soukup and Martin Chodúr. Margita is joined in duets by Zlata Adamovská, Hana Zagorová and Miroslav Žbirka. The title song, “Mapa lásky,” is an exceptional virtual duet with Hana Hegerová, using an older recording of the legendary chanson singer, who ended her performing career in 2011. Produced by Jan Adam and Daniel Hádl, this carefully selected collection includes songs such as “Sous le ciel de Paris,” “La Mamma,” “La Vie en rose” and “Hymne à l’amour.”
