Strážce nádrže - 3 CD

Zdeněk Svěrák once again takes on the role of a brilliant storyteller. Jiří Smrček, an ageing water-reservoir administrator in northern Bohemia and a former village teacher, is told by his superior to find his successor because it is time for him to retire. Mr Smrček is taken aback. Although he looks among the people around him, he cannot find anyone suitable, because he himself is always the best candidate. He reports everything to the general director of the river-basin authority in letters. Though he never receives a reply, he continues writing not only about the condition of the reservoir and his search for a successor, but above all about the state of his soul. He reflects on his life, explains a number of things he has done, and adds various amusing stories that he experienced or heard told. He also writes about falling in love, having become enchanted by the beauty of a young woman despite his age. In this book, now also available as an audiobook, Zdeněk Svěrák recounts not only Jiří Smrček’s life but, in a sense, his own as well. The story reaches readers and listeners with the force of a real and sincere confession. The audiobook is in Czech.
