Description
This Czech-language unabridged audio adaptation presents Miroslav Skála’s humorous novel, the story that also inspired the legendary television film. Two young people meet by chance, fall in love and set out on a pre-wedding journey through the mountains and along a river to the town of Jiljí. The novel was written in 1972, and in 1983 director Hynek Bočan made a television film based on it, starring Libuše Šafránková and Josef Abrhám. In this audio version, Tatiana Vilhelmová and Vojtěch Dyk bring their own distinctive style, relish, humour and gentle irony to the tale of a natural scientist and his empathetic beloved. The couple face river rapids, a storm in the mountains, a viper and many other obstacles on their way to the little church in Jiljí, where they eventually marry. Music by Petr Skoumal, taken from the original television film, accompanies their journey, although Vojtěch Dyk also sings a requiem in the story for their destroyed boat. The audio version allows the wit and humour of the original text, which could not be fully used in the film, to emerge in its entirety.
