Description
This Czech-language audiobook presents more than seven hours of interviews by Aleš Palán with Miloň Čepelka, one of the leading figures of the Jára Cimrman Theatre. The book version, published in 2016, attracted public attention because Čepelka is one of the best-loved members of the famous ensemble. Audiences know him as the mother in Akt, the double role of the princes Jasoně and Drsoně in Long, Broad and Short-Sighted, Count Zeppelin in The Pub on the Green, Sergeant Vogeltanz in The Stand-In, and Božena Němcová’s Grandmother in Czech Heaven. His name suits him: he is kind and gentle, yet can also be as sharp and cutting as a knife blade. In fourteen chapters, Čepelka discusses the origins of the Jára Cimrman Theatre, which he co-founded, the split that occurred within the ensemble in its early years, and details of its later development, as well as episodes from his own life. He recalls the events surrounding the 1968 occupation, when he and his theatre colleagues took part in illegal broadcasts by Czechoslovak Radio. The interviews also cover his literary work, collections of poetry and short stories, television and radio plays, song lyrics, entertainment and educational programmes, and his distinctive hosting of the Book Hit Parade on Country Radio.
