Jan P. Muchow presents a unique collection of his film music on The Antagonist. The CD combines purely instrumental score music with songs written specifically for individual films, highlighting a distinctive part of Muchow’s work as a film composer. It includes the now legendary Lucky Boy from Samotáři, the dark ballad Lay Down from Ve stínu, Cowboy of The River from Teorie tygra and the western-inspired Out of Shadow from the Polish film Yuma. The CD contains 17 tracks known from films including Samotáři, Ve stínu, Teorie tygra, Grandhotel, Muži v naději, Yuma, My 2, Jedna ruka netleská, Normal and Václav, among others. Together they create a varied musical palette of emotions and moods, with individual compositions working both independently and as part of a whole. The music is delicate and forceful, diverse and minimalist, reflecting Muchow’s distinctive position among Czech composers of film music. The project’s visual presentation was created by the acclaimed graphic designer Pavel Fuksa, who designed a special visual treatment for both formats.
