Description
This special reissue presents Karel Gott’s debut album, originally assembled from stylistically varied singles recorded in 1964 and 1965. The fourteen songs document both the musical atmosphere of the period and the first stage of Gott’s remarkable career, when he worked mainly with large orchestras including Karel Vlach’s Orchestra and the TOČR. The one-off exception is “Adresát neznámý”, accompanied by Olympic in a Beatles-influenced arrangement. Alongside international inspirations, the repertoire includes valuable Czech contributions, notably the Semafor-associated “Oči sněhem zaváté” and songs by established composers Jiří Bažant and Alfons Jindra. Remastered sound, a reconstructed cover and documentary sleeve notes make this reissue an engaging reminder of the mid-1960s. The programme includes “Angelina”, “Oči sněhem zaváté”, “Maria”, “That Old Lucky Sun”, “Adresát neznámý (From Me to You)”, “Tam, kde šumí proud”, “Příval pláče (Rawhide)”, “Jezebel”, “Měsíční řeka (Moon River)”, “Má oči šedé”, “Kam běží vítr (Red Sails in the Sunset)”, “Poušť”, “Ptačí nářečí (Oh, Lonesome Me)” and “Já už vím (I Believe)”.
