Description
Soukromá elegie is Luboš Pospíšil’s third album with an updated 5P lineup. This established rock singer-songwriter continues along his successful path, combining original melodies for his romantic voice, strong lyrics from trusted collaborators and bandmates two or three musical generations younger than himself. Pospíšil wrote most of the music, with valuable contributions from Michal Hrůza and Ondřej Fencl. The lyricists include familiar names such as Pavel Šrut, Jan Sahara Hedl and Pepa Lábus, as well as Tomáš Belko. The only change in the band is guitarist Mirek Linhart, while the rhythm section of Martin Štec and Pája Táboříková remains in place and Fencl adds keyboards and other instruments. Recorded at Lukáš Martinek’s Svárov studio, with arrangements featuring strings, brass and Celtic harp, the album has a gratifying sense of shared energy. From the opening “Lilie” to the closing “Poslední tango,” it offers varied listening, including exceptional ballads, a driving rock ’n’ roll number and a small tribute to Jethro Tull, all shaped by Pospíšil’s distinctive interpretation. The dozen distinctive songs include the reminiscence “Už vyplouvám, Karino,” and around half had already been successfully tested in concert. Pospíšil’s elegy sometimes reflects on lost love, passing years or missed opportunities, but its inner hope is strong enough to dispel any autumn melancholy.
