This Czech-language audiobook recounts Michal Viewegh’s experience after his aorta ruptured on 8 December 2012. Doctors unsuccessfully resuscitated him for half an hour, but they decided to operate, and against all expectations Michal survived. Less than a year later, he published his twenty-fifth book. He attempts to capture what life is like for a person with a severely damaged brain, someone who should be happy to have survived but finds it difficult. Although he is alive, his former life lies in ruins, he depends entirely on the care of those closest to him, and he all too often wonders whether it might have been better otherwise. Writing keeps him alive, and this book becomes, despite all the pain it contains, a form of catharsis.
