This two-CD set presents Antonín Rejcha’s complete piano trios, bringing his six Grands Trios Concertants back to life with compelling energy. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Rejcha paid little attention to promoting his own music, apparently trusting that his genius would be fully appreciated long after his death. His experimental spirit touches on phenomena associated with twentieth-century music, including minimalism and microtonality. This first complete reference recording of the six piano trios, Op. 101, arrives 202 years after their first publication in 1824, in the interpretive and technical quality the works deserve. Rejcha continually surprises listeners and sets demanding technical challenges that define the elite musicians for whom the music was intended, while anticipating the full-blooded Romanticism of Schumann and others. Trio Bohémo, acclaimed for its Supraphon debut featuring Smetana and Schubert, recorded the trios in Vienna with director Andrew Keener and sound engineer Oscar Torres, including a Dolby Atmos version. The ensemble features Jan Vojtek on piano, Matouš Pěruška on violin, and Kristina Vocetková on cello. The recording was made in the concert hall of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
