Description
This recording presents the sacred and instrumental music of František Ignác Antonín Tůma (1704–1774), a composer highly esteemed in Vienna in the mid-18th century for his church music, written both in the strict polyphonic stile antico and the modern concertato style. The programme includes Vesperae de confessore, Stabat Mater, Litaniae Reginae martyrum, Ouverture in C, Sinfonia in d and Partita in g. The festive Vespers and litanies, intended for major feasts, feature clarini or trumpets and timpani, while the instrumental works combine Italian and French stylistic elements with the newer galant style. The Czech Ensemble Baroque, conducted by Roman Válek, presents all the works except Stabat Mater in modern premieres, with performances by soprano soloists Romana Kružíková and Zuzana Badárová, alto Lucie Karafiátová, tenor Matúš Šimko and bass Jiří Miroslav Procházka.
