Richard Strauss’s songs are finely polished gems, filled with micro-dramas, transparent emotions and intimate feeling. Soprano Kateřina Kněžíková, now established on opera stages and concert platforms, explores Strauss’s songs with conductor and pianist Jakub Hrůša. In an enchanting live recording with the Bamberger Symphoniker, she performs the Four Last Songs, alongside a carefully chosen selection of songs with piano spanning almost seventy years of Strauss’s work. The songs reflect decisive events in the composer’s life and the atmosphere of his time, culminating in the themes of farewell and death expressed in one of his final orchestral works. The programme features Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs for soprano and orchestra, as well as Zueignung, Die Nacht, Allerseelen, Ständchen, Cäcilie, Heimliche Aufforderung, Morgen, Das Rosenband, Muttertändelei, Winterweihe, Waldseligkeit, Ich wollt ein Sträusslein binden and Das Bächlein. Kateřina Kněžíková sings soprano, while Jakub Hrůša performs on piano and conducts the Bamberger Symphoniker.
