Description
The Belfiato Quintet presents five works from the essential modern wind-quintet repertoire: Carl Nielsen’s Wind Quintet, Op. 43, Paul Hindemith’s Kleine Kammermusik, Op. 24/2, Samuel Barber’s Summer Music, Op. 31, Henri Tomasi’s Five Secular and Sacred Dances, and Arvo Pärt’s Quintettino, Op. 13. Composed between 1922 and 1964, the pieces reflect the different artistic elements of their composers and the musical traditions of their countries. They also form part of the ensemble’s own story: Nielsen’s quintet was the first work the group studied, while their performance of Tomasi’s Five Secular and Sacred Dances was awarded first prize at the composer’s competition in Marseille in 2011. The album’s five elements can also be associated with the five very different personalities whose diversity helps create a perfectly coordinated ensemble, remarkable for its range of sound colours and expressive shades. Belfiato Quintet presents five elements sounding in perfect harmony.
