Description
This classical music CD presents Robert Schumann’s Piano Quartet in C minor, WoO 32, Piano Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 47, and Märchenerzählungen, or Fairy Tales, for violin, viola and piano, Op. 132, performed by the Dvořák Piano Quartet: Slávka Vernerová on piano, Štěpán Pražák on violin, Petr Verner on viola and Jan Žďánský on cello. Schumann composed his first Piano Quartet at the age of eighteen and carried it in his thoughts for two decades. The E-flat major quartet reflects his compositional mastery, rooted in Bach and Beethoven yet expressed in his own unmistakable voice. Märchenerzählungen, written in 1853, was one of his final happy creative achievements. This recording captures the arc of Schumann’s work from its beginnings through its peak to its very end, highlighting the close relationship between immense beauty, pain and suffering in his chamber music.
