Description
This Christmas album by mezzo-soprano Dagmar Pecková brings together Czech and Moravian carols, Christmas songs from Czech Baroque hymn books of the 17th century, and traditional Christmas songs from across Europe, arranged by Jaroslav Krček. The programme includes Michna’s “Chtíc aby spal,” “Good King Wenceslas,” “Lulajże Jezuniu,” “Stille Nacht” and “Adeste fideles,” alongside musical treasures from Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy. Dagmar Pecková is joined by Karel Jakubů, Jaroslav Krček, Filip Dámec, the Gentlemen Singers and Musica Bohemica, conducted by Krček. His arrangements, inspired by Baroque and folk music, range from intimate chamber textures to an almost symphonic sound, complemented by male voices and other soloists. The album offers 30 carols and songs from Bohemia, Moravia and the whole of Europe.
