Description
This classical vocal album by mezzo-soprano Dagmar Pecková brings together a striking programme built around the idea of sin and forgiveness, which connects modern life with the heroines of ancient mythology. The women portrayed are intelligent and powerful, often gifted with supernatural abilities, determined to obtain what they desire or take revenge, yet also betrayed by deceit or wounded by their own love. The opening aria from Massenet’s Marie Magdalene introduces the album’s central message: forgiveness is the only way out of sin. Pecková explains that almost every mezzo-soprano role can be described as a sinner, perhaps because of the darker colour of the voice. In her interpretation, each sinner is explored with psychological and emotional depth, supported by the Slovak Philharmonic under the musicianship of Aleksandar Marković. The album offers an insight into the mysterious female soul through the themes of love, sin and forgiveness.
