Description
On this CD, Pavel Šporcl performs works by the most important Czech violin virtuosos of the period between Paganini and Oistrakh. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, these outstanding representatives of Czech violin art received the highest honours in the world’s musical capitals, including New York, London, Vienna, Berlin, Munich, Prague, Kharkiv and Kyiv, and often established teaching traditions there that continue to influence their successors. F. Laub, J. Kubelík and V. Příhoda were proclaimed the finest virtuosos of their time, while O. Ševčík was a sought-after teacher in Vienna, Russia and America. One line of the Czech violin school leads from Ševčík through his pupil Jaroslav Kocian and Václav Snítil to Pavel Šporcl, one of the most sought-after classical musicians in his country. With this recording, Šporcl recalls the greatest representatives of the celebrated Czech violin school and pays tribute to them, including with one composition of his own.
