This classical music CD presents a selection of the best-known orchestral works by Leoš Janáček, whose distinctive musical language reflects the purity and mystery of nature in his native Hukvaldy region, together with the playfulness, longing and roughness of local folk music. The programme ranges from the famous Sinfonietta through the Lachian Dances and the rhapsody Taras Bulba to the charming suite from the opera The Cunning Little Vixen. Janáček’s “rough tenderness” has made him, alongside Dvořák, Smetana and Martinů, one of the most frequently performed Czech composers worldwide.
