Johann Strauss’s waltzes and polkas set all Vienna dancing in the second half of the 19th century, elevating dance music to a genuine art form. He was equally successful with his 16 operettas, among them Die Fledermaus and The Gypsy Baron, two of the finest and most famous works in the genre. This collection features The Blue Danube waltz, the Carnival March from A Night in Venice, the overture to Die Fledermaus and famous melodies from The Gypsy Baron. To honour the name Johann Strauss fully, it also recalls the father of the “Waltz King,” Johann Strauss Sr., with the famous Radetzky March, traditionally performed at the Vienna New Year’s Concert.
