Description
For this project, Ludmila Peterková, the leading Czech clarinetist of her generation, has selected works by German and Italian Romantic composers Max Bruch, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy and Gioacchino Antonio Rossini. Although not generally well known, the repertoire is particularly attractive to listeners. Peterková’s assured and sonically accomplished performance is complemented in two works by the basset horn, an instrument that has entirely disappeared from the modern instrumental world, played by the young French talent Nicolas Baldeyrou. The third soloist is violist Alexander Besa, known to Czech listeners as the recipient of Harmonie magazine’s 1998 Discovery of the Year award for his solo recital CD. The Prague Chamber Philharmonia performs under Jiří Bělohlávek, whose sensitive and informed conducting maintains the ensemble’s high standard.
