Synopsis
The story provides a psychological insight into the conscience and morality of a group of friends. Set during the war in a small Budapest tavern in the autumn of 1944, it follows watchmaker Gyurica, book dealer Kiraly, carpenter Kovacs, and innkeeper Béla, who regularly meet to discuss everyday problems. One day, they are all arrested by the fascist machinery and subjected to ruthless violence by the police. Pretenses fall away, and in this life-threatening drama, each of them reveals their true character.
