Description
This Czech-language travel book by Brno native Pavel Franek, a mechanical engineer by profession, begins with advice on preparing for journeys, drawing on his experience of dozens of visits to the Iberian Peninsula and the rest of the Mediterranean. He has travelled through Spain and Portugal mainly by car with his wife, staying in three-star hotels usually arranged through an agency, although the book is also suitable for travellers using other forms of transport. The author, who has published numerous specialist articles, previously wrote a travel book about travelling through Morocco and Western Sahara by car. The later chapters combine descriptions and points of interest relating to major sights in 20 destinations with often adventurous and humorous travel stories. Topics include a bullfight in Málaga, car trouble and a robbery in Alicante, the Camino de Santiago, Hemingway’s Fiesta in Pamplona, the Running of the Bulls, a bullfight in Pamplona and an adrenaline-filled drive through the Pyrenees. The author combines useful information about landmarks with engaging travel stories. The book includes 45 colour photographs and a map.
