This Czech-language book contains a unique collection of poems created as improvisations on words called out by the audience during concerts by Spirituál kvintet. Improvisation is an independent artistic discipline in which chance plays a part, but which also depends on experience, imagination and, above all, a willingness to play with words, rhythm, meaning, the audience’s expectations and time measured in the bars of one or two songs. The poems capture a momentary mood and situation while preserving the qualities that have earned František Novotný an unusually large circle of readers: purity of poetic language and vision, clarity, accessibility and humour. Illustrations by Jiří Slíva complete the book.
