It explores the traditions behind Czech graphic design, its key figures and the creation of typefaces, while examining phenomena that surround us at every turn, from packaging and film posters to city logos and the Prague metro’s navigation system. It also considers the graphic design of the first Czechoslovak constitution, the reputation of Czech books and the appearance of a spoon on the poster for the film Pelíšky. Interviews with witnesses to the past and leading contemporary designers complement essays by graphic-design theorists, sociologists, cultural anthropologists and other experts from the Czech Republic and abroad.
