Description
This Czech-language novel follows Alda, a girl from South Moravia who travels to London to work as an au pair, caring for children and a household first in a British family and later in Croatian and Indian families. From the moment she enters a house on Crescent Street, she is accompanied by the magical scent of Christmas cookies, which appears as unexpectedly as it disappears. Who is the mysterious Mr Mystering, trying to capture the enchanting aroma? Could Mrs Meková, who bakes the finest cookies under the wide sky and seems to conjure gentle, inconspicuous magic into ordinary lives with her wooden spoon, be involved? And what does the black cat know, the four-legged creature accompanying the characters through London, Watford, Prague and a small village in South Moravia?
