Description

This Czech-language novel follows Dominic Salt and his three children, who care for Shearwater, a small island near Antarctica. Once home to numerous researchers and now containing the world’s largest seed bank, Shearwater is left with the Salts as its last inhabitants as sea levels rise. During one of the wildest storms the island has ever seen, the ocean washes an unknown woman ashore. The family cares for her until she regains consciousness, but even then she remains shrouded in mystery. When she discovers sabotaged radios and a freshly dug grave, she realises that Dominic is hiding dark secrets of his own. As the storms around Shearwater intensify, the characters must decide whether they can trust one another enough to protect the precious seeds in their care before it is too late, and whether they can finally say goodbye to a tragic past and create something new.
