Holly – King Stephen (2024)

This Czech-language thriller follows Holly Gibney, one of Stephen King’s most compelling and resourceful characters, as she investigates the terrifying truth behind multiple disappearances in a Midwestern town. Holly has evolved from a shy but courageous loner in Mr. Mercedes, through Bill Hodges’s partner in Finders Keepers, into a fully fledged, intelligent and sometimes tough private detective in The Outsider. When Penny Dahl calls the Finders Keepers detective agency hoping for help finding her missing daughter Bonnie, Holly is reluctant to take the case. Her partner Pete has COVID, her complicated mother has just died, and Holly is supposed to be on vacation. Yet something in Penny’s desperate voice makes it impossible for her to refuse. Just blocks from where Bonnie vanished live Rodney and Emily Harris, octogenarian professors and lifelong academics who appear devoted to each other. In the basement of their well-kept, book-lined house, however, they conceal a horrifying secret that may be connected to Bonnie’s disappearance. Intelligent, patient and ruthless, they are almost impossible to expose. Holly must use all her considerable abilities to outsmart the depraved professors.
