Description
This paperback scholarly volume presents studies based on contributions given at the Conference of Young Slavists, which brings together emerging researchers from across Europe. It includes selected papers from two conference editions: The Phenomenon of Second-Rateness and Marginality in the Slavic Area (2023) and Hegemony in the Slavic Area (2024). The thirteen studies, written in Czech, English, Slovak, Russian, Polish, Serbian, Croatian and Slovenian, are divided into two sections according to the conference year and further arranged by subject: history and culture, linguistics, and literature. Hegemony and marginality are integral parts of all societies and academic disciplines, and the multidisciplinary contributions highlight the many ways these two dynamics appear. The authors examine, among other topics, the hegemony of linear text, the marginality of gender issues in the literary canons of Slavic countries, and struggles over hegemony reflected in changes to place names in multinational territories. The book also addresses subjects often marginalised in various disciplines.
