Description
This nineteenth volume of Jan Patočka’s Collected Works contains the philosopher’s notes on the wide variety of subjects he explored between 1946 and 1950. In an entry dated 14 December 1946, he reflects on his changing methods of writing and thinking: he once tried to deliberately shape and concentrate his thoughts, directing them according to concepts that seemed important, whereas he now records an idea only after it has formed. He describes the effort to recognize an idea that is already present, intensify it, and allow it to develop through criticism. Elsewhere, he considers the tension between what might satisfy us and what we are able to find, and the search for a position in which we feel free rather than subject to things and surrounded by uncertainty.
