Description
This Czech-language novel follows the young aristocrat James Willoughby, who comes to Edinburgh to study medicine. The local university offers everything he wants except the opportunity to dissect a human body, so he must enrol at one of the private schools, which he cannot afford. Desperate, he makes a deal with the assistant of the renowned anatomist Aneurin “Nye” MacKinnon, who offers him work and access to medical study. James soon realises that he has made a pact with the devil: Nye is a body snatcher. Fascinated by him, James joins his notorious group, which steals corpses to be used as anatomical specimens. He becomes a body snatcher himself, constantly keeping one foot in prison, and soon finds himself, together with Nye and his associates, caught in the middle of a gang war between groups of thieves who do not shrink from cold-blooded murder.
