The contents of this Czech-language young adult fantasy novel follow seventeen-year-old Zoey King, a girl from a respected family with roots among the Tuatha De Danann, an ancient people whose members have always possessed magical abilities. Everyone expects Zoey to inherit her mother's healing gift. Zoey studies at Everfall Academy, a prestigious school for students with noble talents, including healing, plant magic and combat. When she sees one of the students die at an academy ball before it happens, her life turns upside down. Zoey is a banshee, a fairy of death, and must come to terms with this truth. She moves to another college, inhabited mainly by beings with dark abilities connected to death, and receives a new timetable. Dylan Dae Park, a grim reaper whom everyone else prefers to avoid, is supposed to help her with her studies and with mastering her new magic. Zoey cannot stop thinking about Finn's death, which she witnessed at the ball, and together with her new friends Kenna and Murphy she decides to solve the mystery. They gradually uncover more and more clues and discover that Finn was murdered. Their investigation places them at the centre of the killer's attention and becomes dangerous. Meanwhile, they uncover secret and forbidden meetings where some students take part in highly suspicious battles, including Dylan, who is slowly winning Zoey's heart.
