Description
This Czech-language young adult novel tells an authentic story about growing up, searching for one’s identity and learning to accept oneself. Nearly fifteen-year-old Katka spends most of her time alone, enjoys reading and also loves to eat. Her classmates consider her strange, but Katka believes everything will be different at grammar school, so after her entrance exams she makes a resolution: to lose weight. At first, she is simply trying to change her lifestyle, but gradually it becomes clear that the journey towards her imagined “new self” is not as simple as she expected. Her desire for change begins to spiral out of control. At grammar school, everything really does change, though not quite in the way she anticipated. Anorexia plays one of the central roles in this authentic story, but as is characteristic of Petra Soukupová, its most important subject is human relationships.
