Description

This book continues the exploration of motor racing on city circuits and hill climbs, following earlier volumes devoted to Central, North, West and East Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. Road racing in South Bohemia began in Třeboň in the second half of the 1930s, the only race held in the region before the Second World War. After the war, races took place in Strakonice, Písek, Hluboká nad Vltavou, Kaplice, Tábor, Jindřichův Hradec and several other locations. Although South Bohemia held fewer races than some other regions, two events, the Golden Wheel in Třeboň and the President Dr Beneš Circuit in Tábor, attracted highly respected fields. The Strakonice-based ČZ factory was also an important name in racing, producing machines for both road racing and motocross and helping launch a number of internationally renowned riders. The book introduces riders and constructors including Alois and Bohumil Roučka, Zdeněk Polánka, Arnošt Zemen, Bohumil Staša, Stanislav Malina, František Boček and engineer František Pudil, creator of the fastest Czech ČZ road-racing motorcycle. It also covers automobile competitions, including the legendary Rallye Vltava, and features circuit maps, previously unpublished period photographs and race-result summaries.
