Description
Marie and Paul Melzer are enjoying family life, but their happiness does not last long. The First World War breaks out and the men leave for the front. As heir to an industrial family, Paul is initially exempt from military service because he is needed at home as a factory specialist. Eventually, however, he receives his call-up papers, on the very day Marie gives birth to their twins. Marie is not deterred by any obstacle. She soon realizes that the Melzer textile factory is in serious trouble and sets out to save the family legacy. Her sisters-in-law Kitty and Elisabeth also need her help. Later, she receives the terrible news that Paul has been taken prisoner. Soon afterwards, his friend, the elegant Ernst von Klippstein, begins seeking her company more and more often. This Czech-language historical novel is the second volume in a family saga.
