Description
Beowulf is an epic poem probably written in the 900s CE. It tells in vivid detail of events set 600 years earlier, when the hero Beowulf is asked to help a king defend his halls against the monster Grendel. Written in Old English, the poem follows a hero of the Goths, the early Swedish people, who comes to help the King of the Danes. Its vivid accounts contain some historical evidence and have influenced heroic literature in Europe and the modern era. This volume belongs to Flame Tree 451, a collection ranging from myth and mystery to horror, fantasy and science fiction, with werewolves, mechanical men, vampires, villains, mad scientists, secret worlds, lost civilisations and escapist fantasies.
