Description
Just before Christmas in 1953, Inspector Grasby and Juggers investigate a puzzling murder in the remote village of Uthley’s Bay, where a fisherman is found dead on the beach with a stocking wound tightly around his throat. Hundreds of pairs of stockings soon wash up on the shore, while a blizzard cuts the detectives off from help and the local innkeeper is murdered. The villagers refuse to talk, leaving Grasby and Juggers to pursue false leads through the snow as everyone becomes a suspect. Meanwhile, Grasby cannot stop thinking about the villagers’ unusually fine hosiery, even beneath their oilskins. Who is the sinister bespectacled man watching their hotel, and how can the detectives solve the murders when the whole village seems to be hiding secrets?
