When Mariel's ramshackle band kidnaps Clem in retaliation for her guardian helping the Sheriff of Nottingham, their plans are disrupted when Jack Hartley, Mariel's father and Commander of the Merry Men, is captured in a deadly ambush. Determined to prove herself, Mariel sets out to rescue him, with her annoyingly cheerful captive in tow. But the greenwood is at war, and many believe the Merry Men are no longer on the right side of history. As Clem tends the group's wounds, Mariel begins to question the cause to which she has devoted her life. Growing closer, the two must fight for their lives and for everyone living in the forest.
