Descripción

In this book, sociologist Jan Keller offers a precise analysis of the dominant phenomena shaping today’s social and political situation in the Czech Republic, Europe and the wider world. He examines a peculiar division of labour between right-wing neoliberals, who have distorted liberalism, and left-wing neo-Marxists, who have caricatured Marxism. Keller describes a time when left-wing parties are losing elections, global capitalism is expanding, privatisation is widespread and welfare states are heavily indebted, while warnings are also being voiced that left-wing cultural revolutionaries control key institutions and threaten Western culture. He considers the spread of egalitarian ideology from universities and the media as social and economic inequalities grow, and explores the support that large multinational corporations and successful billionaires give to revolutionary demands directed against their own power. The book also discusses the contradictory expectations placed on individuals, racial and colonial guilt, and calls for a cultural revolution among the affluent middle classes. The contents are in Czech.
