Descripción
This Czech-language collection of fairy tales vividly and convincingly portrays the nature of the Krkonoše Mountains and the local mountain people, drawing on the authors’ close knowledge of the region. Its poetic storytelling style follows in the tradition of writer Marie Kubátová, combining Krkonoše folklore with elements of contemporary life. Richly illustrated by academic painter Jiří Bernard, the book contains an introduction and sixteen enchanting tales about Krakonoš, the Lord of the Mountains. Set in times long past, when people were closely connected with nature, the stories evoke snowy trees, glittering air and winter walks through the mountains. They tell what happened on the mountain heights, what pranks Krakonoš played for the good mountain folk, and how he punished their occasional misdeeds and injustices. The collection is intended to delight children as well as adult mountain lovers, while preserving something of the magic of the old Krkonoše Mountains and the lives of their inhabitants.
